WHAT IS BREAST AUGMENTATION?

HOW IS BREAST AUGMENTATION PERFORMED?
Before we begin your outpatient breast augmentation, we'll start by discussing your desires and overall goals. We'll discuss the type of implant you want (saline or silicone), size, and profile. Incision location, implant placement, and the "look" you're going for will also be discussed. Dr. Chua uses general anesthesia to keep you comfortable during the entire procedure. During your procedure, an incision will be made and the chosen breast implant will be placed into position. There are two techniques that may be applied for implant placement: submuscular placement (under the pectoralis major muscle) or submammary/subglandular placement (over the pectoralis major muscle). Where to place the implant depends on varying factors, including the size and type of implant, the thickness of your native skin and breast tissue, plus the experienced opinion of Dr. Chua. Regardless of incision type, scarring is usually minimal. After the incisions are closed, you will awake in the post-anesthesia recovery area in a wrap custom made for you by Dr. Chua. You will need to wear the wrap for a few days before switching to a surgical bra to help reduce swelling. Several days after surgery, the swelling and bruising will begin to slowly go away, and your breasts will start to look and feel normal. You should be able to resume everyday activities within a few days, however, exercise should be avoided for a few weeks.
