HOW IS RHINOPLASTY PERFORMED?
Rhinoplasty is performed while you are under general anesthesia, and in most cases, it is an outpatient procedure. Dr. Chua performs nose surgery with either a closed approach or an open method; he will choose the correct method based on your desired outcome. The objective during treatment is to remove excess cartilage, tissue, and bone, or to build and increase cartilage if needed for reshaping. The nose is repositioned while the skin is draped over the newly enhanced framework. Sutures are placed either inside your nose or within the natural external crease. Following your rhinoplasty, we will have you rest comfortably in the recovery suite before you're released to heal at home. Your nose and the surrounding area will be bruised and swollen for a few days, and you may have bruising and discoloration beneath your eyes as well. Cold compresses and pain medication can assist with these effects. Your post-operative appointment with Dr. Chua will be scheduled within a few days following surgery to check your healing progress. On average, it takes 2—4 weeks to look normal following nose surgery. Within this recovery phase, strenuous activity or exercise should be avoided.
